Some people do fine with three square meals a day. I am not one of those people. I usually have a pretty decent sized lunch, but a late afternoon snack is almost always necessary to keep me fueled up until dinner, especially if I’m in marathon-training mode. I also look forward to snack time as it gives me a nice little break in my day. I know… I’m a five-year-old, but whatever. You don’t want to see me hangry, do you? Didn’t think so.
Anywho, while I’d love to have the time to sit down and enjoy a decadent snack, I’m usually snacking while working or while running to an event or meeting. Therefore, my snack requirements are as follows:
- Must be easy to eat on the go.
- Must be healthy (I don’t want to feel gross or crash later in the day)
- Must be delicious
If your snack guidelines are the same as mine, this post is for you! Below are my favorite healthy grab’n’go snacks that keep me fueled between meals. Read on. There may or may not be a giveaway in it for you (ok… obviously there is – it’s in the title of this post!).
1. An Apple
An apple a day keeps the hanger at bay! Ha! But seriously, apples are my jam all year long. They’re easy to grab and eat on the run. They’ve got fiber to keep you full. They come in a ton of varieties, so you can mix it up. They’re pretty darn awesome. If you’re able to sit and eat your apple, I suggest adding some nut butter or this Gingerbread Sunflower Seed Butter to take your snack to the next level!
2. A Handful of Almonds
Healthy fats. fiber, protein, magnesium – almonds have it all! Plus, they’re crunchy and delicious. Snag a handful on your way out the door or as you head into a meeting. Raw almonds are delicious, but I’m a big fan of roasted, unsalted almonds. They’re just so tasty! Just remember to keep it to a small handful, as the calories can stack up quickly with these guys.
3. Copycat Chocolate Coffee RX Bars
When you’re not so busy, take a little time to whip up these Copycat Chocolate Coffee RX Bars. They’re filled with delicious ingredients like almonds (go almonds!), dates, and… wait for it… espresso powder! These are perfect for that little extra boost, and they’re oh-so delicious! Make a batch, and grab one whenever snack time strikes.
4. Gingerbread Protein Bites
I’ve made these a few times for friends, and they’re always a hit. The combo of protein and healthy fats in these little bites of joy will keep you fuller for longer, and can you ever really beat gingerbread? Did I mention they’re gluten free and vegan? Boom.
5. Frontier Bites
These little bites are so delicious, and the best part is they all contain less that 10 ingredients that are gluten, soy and dairy free. There are no refined sugars, either. Just pure yumminess. I’ve tried the Pumpkin Seed Apple Vanilla Bean (1 serving is 100 calories, 4g fat, 13g carbs, 5g sugar, and 2.5g protein) and the Cashew Cranberry Orange (1 serving is 100 calories, 6g fat, 11g carbs, 5g sugar, and 2g protein), and both are SO GOOD! They also have Almond Blueberry Lemon, Macadamia Pineapple Coconut, and Pecan Cherry Cinnamon. Grab 5 of these little bites (or 10 if you’re feeling the hanger pains) and you’re good to go!
