I’ve been a gym goer for a few months now. Each night, I prep my gym bag for the next day and each day I schlep said gym bag through the NYC subway system to the gym and then to work. And then home again. I’ve had my gym bag for years. It’s served me well, but I always had a few qualms with it.
- It’s bulky. I have to take half of the contents out of the bag out to shove it into the locker.
- It doesn’t have space for my water bottles.
- It has a shoe compartment, but once I put my shoes in, half the space in the main compartment is taken up.
So I’ve been on the hunt for a new bag, one that will better suit my needs and that looks pretty, of course. A gal’s gotta be stylin at the gym, you know. I’ve been seeing Apera bags floating around the blogosphere, so when they agreed to send me a bag to try out I was ecstatic!
After much deliberation (I’m talking over 30 minutes) I decided the Apera Performance Duffel was just what I needed. It came in the mail in all it’s pink glory a few days ago and I couldn’t be happier!
Check this bad boy out!
Let’s chat perks and how it fits the Fitful Focus bill, shall we?
Qualm 1: Bulkiness. While this bag is rather large, it doesn’t look or feel bulky at all! In fact, it fit perfectly into my locker. I didn’t have to remove anything!
Qualm 2: No Water Bottle Storage. Apera to the rescue! One of the reasons I chose the Performance Duffel over the Yoga Tote or the Sling Tote is because it had not one, but TWO water bottle holders. I bring THREE different bottles to the gym with me: one for my pre-workout energizer and H2O, one for my recovery drink, and one for my breakfast smoothie. Home girl needs that bottle storage big time.
Qualm 3: Shoe Compartment Takeover. The Apera Performance Duffel has two shoe compartments. This serves two amazing purposes. For one, the grime my shoes pick up from the NYC streets doesn’t come in contact with my nice clean clothes, and two, if I only have one other pair of shoes with me, I can put one shoe on each side of the bag and they don’t encroach on the main compartment space. Shoe separation for the win!
Other bonuses of this bag? It carries EVERYTHING! I mean everything. I’m talking:
- Change of clothes for work
- Shoes for work
- Makeup Bag
- A towel
- Workout gloves and sweat towel
- My phone and workout armband
- 3 bottles
- Toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, face wash, razor, lotion)
- My lunch (yup, it even had space for my salad bowl, yogurt, and Vega bar)
Oh, look, there’s that third bottle!
And how’s this for fancy speak:
…it includes antimicrobial product protection inside and outside. Ventilated compartments, a water resistant base and wipeable linings keep your bag clean, dry and healthy.
Give me some of that antimicrobial! It also has pockets for EVERYTHING. There is a pocket with an extra little bag for sweaty clothes, so I don’t have to stink up the rest of my bag with my workout stank. There are padded pockets for technology and jewelry. I like to adorn myself in fine gems*, so gotta keep those babies shining. And there are other pockets that I don’t even know what to do with. YET!

But wait, there’s more! Apera not only creates great products, but they are a company with a truly amazing mission: to inspire all athletes. For every three bags they sell, the donate one to the Special Olympics. Which brings me to A GIVEAWAY!
Apera is giving one of you lucky readers a Sprint Pack, which is the bag they donate to the Special Olympics.
It’s perfect for packing a few items for a trip to the gym, to the park, or wherever you go. Inside, there’s a panel that divides the main compartment and keeps things organized in two separate areas. There’s also a large zippered pocket on the front of the bag that gives you even more storage.
A large opening allows you to pack your stuff quickly, then cinched closed easily via the two shoulder straps. Two vented areas on each side of the lightweight bag allows interior contents to breathe. There’s even a loop at the top of the bag so it can hang in your locker or wherever you need it to be.
For easy cleaning, wipe by hand with soap and water.
PLUS, every month, Apera does a separate giveaway! All you have to do is head over here and sign up for their email newsletter. This month’s bag giveaway is the Duffel Pack. Enter both giveaways and double you changes of winning. Enter to with the Sprint Pack below. Good luck!
* By fine gems I mean fake metal from China Town. Fake it til you make it, right?
NOTE: Apera provided me with their Performance Duffel in exchange for a review. I was under no obligation to write a positive review, nor would I ever endorse a product or brand I not believe. All that said, this bag is truly awesome. That is all.
