Monday was my birthday, the big two five! My knees are creaking, my back is aching, and is that grey I see!? Just kidding. My knees are quiet, my back is fine, and there aren’t any greys in sight (phew!).
I enjoyed a few days of celebrating with friends and family and wanted to share a fun photo recap with you all.
The birthday fun started Saturday night with some friends at a cool bar in my neighborhood.
Sunday was family day. My parents and my sister came into town. We went out to a nice lunch, my Dad helped me file my taxes (wah wah) and then we had birthday cake!
That’s right – two cakes! My mom wasn’t sure if the dairy-free recipe would come out well, so she made two different chocolate and peanut butter cakes. The one on the left had (yea – past tense – I brought it into the office on Monday and it was devoured) a peanut butter filling and chocolate-peanut-butter swirl icing. The one on the right is a plain chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting, chocolate chips, and peanuts. Good news – they were both delicious! Well, good news for my taste buds – not so much for the waistline – but hey, it’s my birthday and my wish was for the cakes to be calorie-free soooo cake for everyone! Ok, that wasn’t really my wish, but these cakes were too good to worry about calories.
Then it was time for presents! My parents got me Yonanas!! It’s a healthy dessert maker. You just put in frozen fruit and out comes soft serve ice cream. No added sugar, no dairy, no preservatives – just healthy dessert. YUM! I ran out to the grocery and bought a ton of bananas. I’m just waiting for them to get to the perfect ripeness level so I can freeze them and test out my Yonanas!
On Monday, I woke up and went for a birthday run.
Then I came back and made my smoothie for the Young and Raw 30 Day Green Smoothie Challenge. It was amazing! It tasted like a banana milkshake – great way to start the day. I had another, more savory smoothie for an afternoon snack.
I went to work just like any other day (except I brought birthday cake with me!). There was a fun balloon and a Starbucks gift card waiting for me at my desk and a coworker got me a delicious vegan cupcake from the vegan place down the street from my office.
After work, my boyfriend took me out to a nice birthday dinner. We split a Valentine’s roll:
And then I got a White Dragon Roll and a Greene Roll:
He got a Salmon Roll, and Alaskan Roll, and some kind of spicy tuna tempura concoction.
He is going to take me out to this famous NYC comedy club next weekend for my gift. I can’t wait!
So overall, I’d say it was a very happy birthday. I’m looking forward to a great year and all that 25 has to bring!
