So you all know I’m always on the lookout for a good deal when it comes to fitness. I was gym-less for a long time while I was doing at home programs like p90x, Insanity, or training for my marathon in the great outdoors. Now I only pay $20 a month for a gym, which is a STEAL in NYC. I love finding free classes or Groupons for things like seriously discounted yoga memberships. In my opinion, fitness should be fun, freeing, and as close to free as possible – because free is fun!
The one thing I don’t get to do as often as I’d like is take a spin class. At a whopping $35 or more per class (not including shoe rental), it’s a luxury I just can’t justify shelling out for. I can find free classes every now and then, but they are rare. So when I saw that Well & Good NYC (one of my daily email reads) was putting together a spinning-mixed-with-spa-treatment event at CYC Fitness for only $20, I jumped on it (and brought a friend along with me, of course)!
The event was sponsored by Mio, a skincare company that aims to give you “fit skin” (aka strong, smooth, glowing, and healthy). I love when beauty meets fitness! They had a whole table full of goodies for us event-goers to try.
CYC Fitness was located in a David Barton’s Gym. This place was out of this world. It didn’t look like a gym AT ALL. It actually reminded me more of a swanky night club. There was a fancy reception desk, leather couches, velvet chairs, chandeliers and embellished stair cases. Don’t believe me? These pics are taken straight off their website, and they don’t lie:
Before heading into class, some gals from Mio slathered us with their Workout Wonder, a gel they say is like an energy shot for your muscles. I rubbed it on my calves and it felt amazing! Alright, muscles are slathered, club mode is on, let’s get to sweating!
The spin studio itself continues with the nightclub vibe of the rest of the gym. Blacklights made us glow, and at one point, Keoni (our energetic instructor) got off the bike and started banging on a drum! You can see the drum in the corner here:
Everyone even got little goodie bags on their bikes!
The class itself was awesome and very challenging – the warm up kicked my butt! Keoni took us through 4 songs full of cardio/endurance, 4 songs of weights, and then a final hill push for a few songs before a cool down. I’m pretty sure my hair was sweating!
Afterwards, we cooled down with some juices and got to try out more Mio products. Here are a few more snaps from the event:
Before leaving, I entered Mio’s giveaway. I found out a few days later that I won!! $500 worth of fit skin goodies are being sent my way! I can’t wait to try them all out, and I’ll be sure to share my findings with you of course. Turns out my $20 was well spent, huh?!
Even better news is my office’s health program worked out some deal with CYC to give us employees free classes for a week in August! Looks like I’ll be spin-clubbing (that’s what I’ll call it) a few more times before this summer is up. Fun & free, here I come!
Have you entered the TWO awesome giveaways I have going on right now? You could win a $45 Shopping Spree to Swanson Health Products and/or a Health & Fitness Goodie Bag put together by me and a bunch of other great bloggers. Check them out and enter both below!
