I’ve been seriously slacking on sharing workouts with you all. Besides posting my marathon and half marathon plans, I really haven’t shared anything on the workout front. I’d like for that to change, starting today! I hope you all enjoy what I’m aiming to make a more regular segment on this here blog: Fit Focus!
The goal of Fit Focus posts will be to provide you with workouts toward a specific goal, be it building upper body strength, running intervals, maybe even yoga (when I get a little better at it!). All workouts that I post should be do-able from the comfort of your own home. Soooo no excuses!
Today’s Fit Focus? Legs & Back!
A lot of people dread leg day, but it’s actually one of my favorite strength training routines. As a runner, strong legs are super important. Plus, I never leave a leg workout feeling like I didn’t do enough.
I like to pair a leg workout with some back exercises. For one, the back goes a long way in helping with good running posture and overall flexibility, and two, working in back exercises gives my legs a little break!
So grab some weights, resistance bands, or just use your body weight, and get to it, Sexy Legs!
Not sure what some of these moves look like? Check out these videos tutorials:
squats – front leg raise – deadlift – lunge – stiff leg deadlift – one arm pullover – lateral lunge – jump squats – one arm row – calf raises – back extension
Speaking of getting fit, don’t forget to enter the 20+ fitness giveaways happening right now as part of the Spring Into Fitness Giveaway Blog Hop. I’m giving away 2 entries into a Pretty Muddy 5K of your choice! Head on over and enter!
So, what do you think of the first Fit Focus? What workout have you been loving lately?
Please note, I am not a certified personal trainer. It is always best to consult a medical professional when beginning a new workout routine. If you would like to do the exercises shared on this site, please do so cautiously, review how to do each move properly before attempting, and/or consult a personal trainer.

I’ve been incorporating more strength training lately. Been doing some kettlebell moves with 15-20lb weights.

Nice! I’ve never done a kettlebell workout, but I hear they are awesome (and tough)!
Nicole, I love this workout and I can do right at home {in between Pure Barre classes}. I need to get back on the leg and squat work again…Spring and Summer are near and time to lift the bootie 🙂 thanks for this

Thanks, Lynda! Glad you (and hopefully your bootie) like it.
I used to really hate leg day, but now I LOVVVVE it. I think it has helped me run faster…faster being a relative term here 😉 Great workout you’ve put together 🙂
Thanks! Totally agree on leg workouts helping to improve speed – as long as you’re not too sore, that is!
I’m a relative newbie to strength training but I think the leg workouts are definitely my favourite of all the strength workouts too! Lunges with weights (I usually d a Body Pump class so we would be carrying bars on the back of our shoulders) are probably the biggest killer, in my book, especially when we start doing the bottom-half lunges, but I’ll still take those over anything concerning biceps and triceps – my least favourite two workouts out of strength training! 🙂

That does sound killer! I definitely agree, though – I prefer working legs over arms!
I’ve never really bothered with strengthening my back well not until a year ago when I started experiencing some pain on my back. Changed a few habits, started exercising more regularly and now I’m incorporating back exercises to my routine. I’ve Pinned your exercises recommendations. Thanks Nicole.
