How is already the 4th of July? Crazy how fast this year is going.
I’ve been working hard all week to try to kick a cold so that I’m well enough to enjoy some lake-side grilling and fireworks this weekend.
This is the first time I’ve gotten sick in about a year a half (a record for me!) and I know exactly why. I went to California, and I didn’t workout. Working out is the best medicine for me. I definitely notice that the times I take too much time away from the road or the gym are the times I get sick. I went to Cali with the full intention of getting at least 3 runs in. I ran once in Carmel, but after those hills I said, “No, sir, not for me!” Serves me right, not challenging myself to take on those hills. Cough, sniffle, sniffle…
I’ve been trying to sweat the sick out at the gym this week. I didn’t have a fever, so I figured some low-intensity weight lifting would be ok on Tuesday. I thought the speed intervals I did on the treadmill may have pushed my cold-infused body a little too far seeing as how I felt pretty awful afterwards, but I woke up Wednesday morning feeling a little better. Hopefully today will only lead to more progress on the feeling-healthy front.
Anyway, that is not what this post is supposed to be about. The title of this post led you to believe you’d be finding some Independence Day recipes round these parts. Fooled ya! Haha. JUST KIDDING – on to the good stuff!
