of course!!
Did you know that Texas is among a limited number of states that mandates geography be included in its curricula? Our last school in Texas required I know all of the states, their capitals, and their locations by the end of 4th grade. By the end of 5th grade, students were to know the names, locations, and capitals of every country in the western hemisphere and all the provinces of Canada (and I think their capitals). By the end of 6th, the rest of the world. Missed that, sadly. But I think we’ve got a leg up on that map challenge!
I was such a smartass in HS that when they added a beta geography section to our standardized tests, I lost it. They wanted students to draw the Rocky and Appalachian mountain ranges, the location of our nation’s capital, and a few such other simple things. I had 45 minutes to do this so I also drew in state names, identified which were among the 13 original colonies, drew rivers, labeled the locations of major Civil War battles, the location where the original two railroads met…
And then I wrote “Here’s your stupid map now stop insulting my intelligence.” About a month later, my AP History teacher had a little talk with me – but he laughed throughout his lecture.
Mostly irrelevant to your post but I thought you’d be amused.
I didn’t know that. But I do know I didn’t learn the states or their capitals until freshman year of high school because of how we moved. The school in CT taught US geography in 3rd grade, and Texas taught it in 4th grade – so I missed it!
Thanks for giving me ways to waste time on the internet!! How can someone run 53 marathons in 53 days?? Have a good one!

haha anytime!
The links are interesting, as always 🙂 I’ve been looking for new podcasts so that one is especially useful! And that one about someone doing 53 marathons in 53 days is crazy.

Are you listening to Serial? Ah so good!
Love the links this week! I definitely think ice cream makes everything taste better. Ha! I once had goat cheese and basil ice cream and it was incredible! I love listening to the Chalene Show and The Fit Cast podcasts.
