This creamy, delicious, nutrient-dense Green Monster Smoothie has a surprise ingredient you may not expect.
A few months ago, I popped into a local smoothie shop. I felt like something green and refreshing, so when I spied one called The Green Monster, I went for it. It wasn’t until after I ordered it that I realized it had an odd smoothie ingredient…
Broccoli? In a smoothie? I thought about changing my order, but it was too late. They handed me my Green Monster and I took a skeptical sip.
To my surprise, it was delicious! I vowed one day to recreate it at home, and friends, that day has finally come. Say hello to my homemade version of the the Green Monster Smoothie!
Let me get your first question out of the way: no, this smoothie doesn’t taste like broccoli. Somehow, the combo of ingredients just make it taste sweet and delicious. In fact, it doesn’t taste “green” at all.
Even though it doesn’t taste like broccoli, it still has all the power-house benefits of broccoli. Here are just a few:
- High in vitamin C and vitamin K
- High in fiber
- High in potassium
Add that to the nutrients you get from spinach and bananas and you’ve got one mean, green smoothie on your hands.
- 1 cup almond milk (or milk of choice)
- 1 frozen banana
- 1 Tbsp almond butter
- 1/4 cup broccoli florets
- 1 handful baby spinach leaves
- optional: 1 scoop vanilla protein powder (I used Now Foods Organic Vanilla Pea Protein)
- Add all ingredients to blender (place liquid on the bottom and greens on top).
- Blend until smooth.
- Pour into a glass and enjoy!
