Happy Monday! I hope you all enjoyed the weekend. I have to say, my weekend was pretty amazing. The awesome gals from Girls Gone Sporty arranged for a few of their ambassadors (me included) to go to a group workout class led by Michelle Bridges of The Biggest Loser Australia. After the class, I got to interview her to get some fit and focused tips for all of you! The interview is at the end of this post :).
I met some kick ass Girls Gone Sporty Ambassadors while I was there. I highly recommend you check out their blogs :). On the left is Serena from Serena Marie, RD. Next to her is Nadia from Nadia Murdock FIT, and in the middle is Angela from Runner in Denial.
I haven’t been to a group workout class in A WHILE (marathon training can do that to ya), but this class reminded me how much I miss them! I can’t even begin to describe how awesome the class was!
First of all, Michelle is incredible. She just recently came out with a new program called 12 Week Body Transformation. I believe it launches in January, but a few people in the class just finished a 4 week preview (the workout we did was also a preview of what can be found in the program). She asked who in the class was did the 4 week preview, and this woman, Renee, said she just did it and lost 21 pounds!! Go Renee!! Obviously, Michelle knows what she’s doing!
As soon as the class got started, I started sweating! The workout was jam packed with everything from strength training to plyometrics. A lot of the moves reminded me of things I did when I was doing Insanity.
Michelle made the whole workout fun. She kept everything really high energy, she was always positive (never yelling in your face), and she got everyone in the class working together. I never felt intimidated or like I had to compete with other people in the class. She pushed us but always provided modified moves for beginners and had us smiling the whole time (which is tough to do when you’re sweating like a beast).
If you wondering if the workout was effective, I burned 500 calories doing it! Michelle is no joke! If this workout was any inclination of what you can find in her 12 Week Body Transformation program, that program has got to be pretty bad ass.
Here is the whole class nice and sweaty post-workout (I’m in the front on the far right):
Now for the best part! I got to chat with Michelle one-on-one to learn all about how she stays fit, full, and focused! Check it out in the video below (about 10 minutes). It’s a little tough to hear my questions (all her answers are crystal clear), so just in case you can’t hear me, this is what I asked her:
- How do you keep your workouts fresh/come up with new ideas, and keep people motivated when things are getting stale?
- What would you say to people that think eating healthy is boring or bland?
- What is your favorite healthy snack when you’re on the go?
- How do you keep yourself and your clients inspired when they don’t want to workout, want to give-up, or aren’t seeing progress? How do you keep yourself motivated, and how do you keep them motivated?
- What inspired you to get into the health and fitness industry?
I love Michelle’s “mystery bag workout” for when she can’t decide what to do that day. I also love that she likes popcorn! Now I don’t feel so bad about my air-popped popcorn obsession (thanks, Michelle!). Quote of the interview?
“Motivation is like a bad boyfriend. It’s never there when you need it.”
So true! Her take on motivation is pretty interesting. I’m also amazed that she started teaching fitness classes at 14! Puts my high school career to shame, haha.
What is your favorite tip from Michelle? Do you watch the Biggest Loser in the US? I’m addicted. Who is your favorite this season?
