Happy Wednesday from sunny Los Angeles! I arrived here Monday evening and will be here through next week – flying back to NYC just in time for the Brooklyn Half. I have to say, I’m really enjoying the sunshine and the posh hotel. I haven’t had any celebrity sightings yet, but I did happen to run along the Hollywood Walk of Fame yesterday.
I’m determined to keep up my fitness while I’m out here. The hotel gym is tiny, but I can run outside. Plus, the LA branch of my CrossFit gym is only a mile from the hotel, so I’m hoping to get in some classes there.
Speaking of fitness, did you know that in a lifetime, the average human will spend less than 1% of his or her life exercising? 0.69% to be exact. WHAT?! I don’t know about you, but that sounds dreadfully low to me.
Where did I get these numbers? Reebok recently launched a new campaign entitled 25,915 DAYS, which correlates to the average number of days in a lifetime. They conducted a study of nine countries and discovered the following stats:
Wow. 41% of our lives are spent on technology. 29.75% sitting? Only 6.8% socializing and even less having sex. We’re turning into robots, people!
Reebok’s 25,915 DAYS campaign aims to inspire people worldwide to honor their days and push themselves to do more with the bodies they’ve been given.
Reebok’s VP of Brand Management said:
“As a brand dedicated to promoting and supporting health and fitness around the world, we felt compelled to shine a light on the disparities between what we may aspire to achieve and what we’re willing to do about it. It gives us a renewed urgency to get out there and live fuller, healthier lives. If we all traded in 30 minutes of phone time for a jog, we could actually help change the dynamics of global wellness. The spirit of 25,915 isn’t one of fear, but of hope and opportunity. This study will hopefully help to push and inspire people to do more. Run one extra lap, climb a few extra stairs – it could mean one more lap of the earth by the time your 25,915 days are up.”
I really love what this campaign stands for. Let’s make the most of our lives, get off our phones and get out into the world. Socialize, exercise, enjoy life!
