I’ve been a little stressed out lately – hence the lack of posts recently (apologies). Fear not, this will not become a post filled with complaints about how stressful life can be. On the contrary, being so crazed has made me realize how much I appreciate the times I can just kick back and relax and how much good relaxing can do for the body and the mind.
This weekend, I was finally able to do just that. The boyfriend and I headed up to his family’s lake house on Friday night for a weekend filled with absolutely nothing. It was glorious.
I had a few minutes to spare in the Hoboken train terminal, so I stopped in a tiny liquor store to pick up a bottle for the weekend. They had a very limited collection. I was a little weary of everything considering all the bottles were covered in dust (my boyfriend and I joked they survived Hurricane Sandy), but I pushed that aside and went for a bottle of Chianti. It ended up being a delicious way to start the weekend.
We slept in (the first time for me in WEEKS!) and spent the entire day lounging around. We hung out by the water.
I love the house behind me and the lake in the reflection of my sunglasses.
My boyfriend played with his camera…
… and his boat (he built that himself!).
And we enjoyed a few drinks on the deck listening to a great 70s radio station.
We finished Saturday night with a movie – The Great Escape (one of my favs) – and spend Sunday relaxing a little more before heading back to NYC.
A few days on the lake was just the mini getaway I needed. Stress melted away, and the whole weekend really helped clear my head and put everything into perspective. I know I need to work on not putting so much pressure on myself. If I start to get stressed out, I just need to step back for a minute, breathe, and remember to take some time for myself to unwind. A good workout always helps me de-stress, but sometimes doing nothing is even more helpful. Thanks, weekend, for reminding me of that!
