If you all don’t know this about me by now, I love trying new things – new foods, new workouts – I’m all for stepping outside my health & fitness box.
For instance, I used to always run with music. I thought it was the only way to stay motivated during a run, until one day my headphones crapped out on me. I ran sans music through the streets, and ya know what? It was glorious! Ever since I’ve been experimenting with other things I could do during my runs other than listen to music. Turns out, I love everything! I dig listening to podcasts. I get distracted watching Saved By The Bell on the treadmill, and recently, I discovered a new love: books!
That’s right, I grab a good, clunky hard cover book and turn the pages as I bounce around on my run. Needless to say, it garners a lot of stares in the parks.
I’m talking about AUDIObooks!
Why would an audio book company send a health and fitness blogger a book to listen to? Well, Macmillan Audio has a pretty baller theory that you’ll want to run a little bit extra or sweat through just a few more minutes to finish the chapter your on! In fact, they have a whole Listen While You Workout campaign dedicated to that idea. You can join in on the challenge by signing up and logging how many minutes you listen while being active! Plus, enter their sweepstakes to win a Fitbit Flex! Sounds pretty good to me!
My first run with my audiobook was a 6 miler, aka an author’s intro and 4 chapters! The book itself is not as thrilling as I was anticipating (I should have gone with a mystery – Gone Girl, anyone?), but I was focused on the story instead of how tired I was or the treacherous hill ahead. Books for the win!
Want to test out an audiobook on your next run or sweat sesh? You’re in luck! Macmillan Audio has offered to send one lucky Fitful Focus reader an audio book of their choice! Enter below and happy sweaty reading, er, listening!

NOTE: Macmillan Audio provided me with their product free of charge in exchange for a review. That said, all opinions expressed in this blog are my own and I would never support a product I do not believe in.
