Have you all heard of Lorna Jane? Whether you have or haven’t, you’re in for a real treat with this post.
Lorna Jane Clarkson is the founder of athletic fashion apparel company Lorna Jane. You have to check out the awesome clothes she makes. She started designing fashionable athletic apparel because she was frustrated by the lack of stylish and functional exercise clothing on the market, so she started sewing her own fitness attire and wearing them to the fitness classes she taught. They were such a hit, that she was able to turn her apparel into a global company! How’s that for a strong, powerful, inspiration woman?!
What I love even more than Lorna Jane’s clothes is her outlook on life. She believes in active living and has started a daily practice she’s coined “Move Nourish Believe,” the thought that each day, you should move your body, nourish from the inside out, and believe anything is possible. You may remember I participated in the Move Nourish Believe Challenge with Sweat Pink a few months back.
Anywho, I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek at Lorna Jane’s new project before it launches: The NOURISH Cookbook! I was so excited to receive a digital copy of this book and a $50 gift card to shop for some new gear! I of course went shopping right away. What do you think of my purchases?
Then, of course, I got down to reading. What I really loved about this book was all the extra thought Lorna Jane put into it. You don’t just get a recipe book, you get a philosophy book. She shares her thoughts on active living, her daily rituals, her tips for eating out, meal plans (yes!!), and so much more.
When it comes to her recipes, she goes beyond the typical breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert categories to include things like elixirs, smoothies, snacks and teas.
I was really intrigued by all the tonics, concentrates of highly potent ingredients in health-promoting combinations designed to give you an instant boost of whatever your body needs on a particular day.
I decided to whip up the Happiness Tonic, a blend of coconut water, turmeric, honey, and cinnamon. Yum! I loved this little shot of happiness. It tasted amazing and was just the thing I needed to wake up and give my day a good start.
Did I mention the photography in this book is incredible. Everything has me drooling. Here are a few shots to get your mouth watering:
I also tested out this Chilli, Ginger, and Lemon Grass Grilled Chicken with Rainbow Salad.
I couldn’t find lemongrass, so I subbed in sundried tomatoes (I’m on a sundried tomato kick, what can I say?). I also make some sweet potato fries instead of the wild rice. Even with the substitutions, it. Was. AMAZING! I could eat this dish everyday. The marinade was so yummy (I let it marinate overnight in the fridge), and the salad was light and fresh – the perfect dinner on a hot summer night. My pic isn’t nearly as beautiful as the one in the book, but I bet it tasted just as good!
The recipes are amazing, but the thought behind the book is even more so. Lorna Jane believes that every one of us has the opportunity to make mindful choices, change for the better, and ultimately feel vibrant and full of life. We simply have to make the decision to embrace Active Living and to #liveloveNOURISH every moment of every day.
