The health food industry is flooded with non-fat, low-fat, calorie-free, gluten-free, [insert diet-type here] foods. Some of them are not so tasty, but every now and then you come across a product that is just plain magical.
A few months ago, I raved about this amazing low-cal peanut butter alternative. It has half the calories of normal peanut butter and tastes almost as good. The consistency is a bit thinner and smoother, but I loved mixing it in smoothies, putting it on toast, eating it by the spoonful (what? who does that?), yada yada. I thought it couldn’t get any better.
Well, the health-food gods came down and slapped me in the face. “Are you kidding, me?” they said, “It can always get better!” That’s when PB2 floated down on a cloud from the heavens. (Ok, in reality, I went to visit my Mom, and she told me about this delicious peanut butter that has 85% less fat calories than normal peanut butter – but that story just isn’t as exciting as health-food gods.)
Basically, PB2 takes peanuts, slow roasts them to perfection, and then presses them to remove all the fat and oil. What you end up with is an all-natural peanut butter flavor. The jar contains what is essentially just peanut powder. All you have to do is scoop out a couple tablespoons and mix it with a tablespoon or so of water. The taste and consistency is exactly like a natural peanut butter. It’s even better than the amazing magical peanut butter of days past. Plus, it comes in chocolate! I might just mix together the whole jar and whip out the spoon, but I guess that would defeat the purpose of it being healthy…
It’s a little tough to find. My Mom said she found it at her local GNC, but you can also order it online.
