Sip away your stress with this delicately fragrant and soothing rose water latte. This frothy vegan and caffeine-free treat can be whipped up in minutes, no fancy equipment needed.
Rose water has been taking the beauty world by storm. At least it feels that way. I’ve been seeing it everywhere and was recently gifted two different rose water products: a spray for my hair and a spray/toner for my skin.
Getting these gifts sparked my curiosity about this floral concoction, so of course I turned to my good friend Google. She (because Google, the thing that basically runs the world, is definitely a she) told me this fragrant water has a bunch (sorry attempt at a flower pun) of benefits.
- It’s good for skin – Rose water has anti-inflammatory properties that can help soothe skin irritation, redness and puffiness.
- It can heal – Its antiseptic and antibacterial properties can help clean cuts, fight infection and can even help heal cuts, wounds and scars faster.
- Anti-aging – Turns out this stuff is in so many beauty products because it may have anti-aging effects when applied topically. (SOLD!)
Ok, so rose water will clearly keep my beauty game strong, but then, being the foodie that I am, I started wondering if I could drink it. It’s water, right? I wasn’t going to drink the beauty products that were mixed with other ingredients, but is pure rose water safe to drink?
Google, the she savvy guru that she is, told me yes! Unless you are allergic, there is no harm in drinking it. In fact, the stuff has even more benefits when consumed:
- Digestion – Some studies suggest it can help aid digestion and relieve upset stomach, perhaps because of its anti-inflammatory properties.
- De-stressing – The extract of rose petals (used to make rose water) can help relax the central nervous system, helping with depression and anxiety. The aroma can also help relieve headaches.
- Aids with sore throats – The next time you feel a scratch coming on, down some rosy agua. Many believe it can help with sooth sore throats.
Ok, rose water, I see you.
I bought myself some pure rose water and got to brainstorming a recipe. Apparently a lot of people enjoy it in tea, but what about a Rose Latte?!
How to Make a Rose Water Latte
Start by pouring your favorite plant-based milk into sauce pan (I used a vanilla oat milk). Stir in one and a half teaspoons of beet root powder and bring that to a boil. The beet root powder adds color along with additional health benefits.
Once that’s good to go, pour the beet milk in a blender along with one and half teaspoons of pure rose water and a teaspoon of the sweetener of your choosing (I used coconut sugar). Blend it all up until it’s nice and frothy.
Pour it into a large mug (or two smaller ones if you’re ok sharing), top it off with a sprinkle of beet root powder and few rose petals (fun fact: the leaves, buds and petals of all roses are edible) and enjoy!
I think this is the best smelling latte I’ve ever had.
- 1 1/2 cup vanilla oat milk (or plant-based milk of your choosing)*
- 1 1/2 tsp beet root powder (plus a pinch for garnish if desired)
- 1 1/2 tsp pure rose water
- 1 tsp sweetener of choice (I used coconut sugar)
- optional: rose petals for garnish
- Add the milk and beet root powder to a medium saucepan, stir and bring to a boil.
- Once boiling, pour into a blender.
- Add the rose water and sweetener and blend until frothy.
- Pour into a mug and top with a sprinkle of beet powder and a few rose petals.
- Sip your stress away!
* If you don't use a vanilla-flavored milk, add 1/4 tsp of vanilla extract in the blender phase.
