First things first, HAPPY GLOBAL RUNNING DAY! What better way to celebrate the best day of the year than by lacing up your kicks and heading out for a few miles powered by the Runners Who Wine podcast?
While it’s not quite officially summer just yet, summer temps are on the rise, especially here in Austin. That means running just got a lot more interesting. And by interesting I mean hot. And by hot I mean literally hot. And literally hot means making some serious adjustments to my typical running habits.
You see, just like running in the cold, running in the heat has an impact on your runs. That impact doesn’t have to be negative, though. In fact, running in the heat can positively impact your training, especially if the races you’re training for are in cooler months. Intrigued? Then tune in to the latest episode of Runners Who Wine, in which Annmarie and I share our favorite tips for summer running.
Running in the heat can be a challenge, but challenges are what make us stronger. In fact, the more you train in the heat and humidity, the easier cooler-weather races will be (oh, hi, Fall PR goals).
That said, it’s important to put safety first when running in the summer. Beyond talking about how to run in the heat, we also touch on what to do when it’s just too darn hot (and yes “it’s too hot” can be a legitimate excuse not to run outside), how to keep cool, and how to make sure you’re putting safety first during all your summer runs.

What are you top tips for summer running?

I love running in the heat. Of course, heat here in southeast PA is nothing like heat in Austin. We visited last year in early summer, and man, it was hot! But beautiful. I loved running around the lake.
