Running on vacation should be fun! Rather than stress about training, use your runs as a way to explore a new city. We’re sharing our tips for how to map out routes and make training part of your vacation in the latest episode of Runners Who Wine.

So you just signed up for a big race. You start mapping out your training calendar and BAM! You realize that vacation you’ve been planning for months fall right smack in the middle of your training. What’s a runner to do? Do you skip those runs? Do you give up on the race? No and no, silly!
Race training takes time and dedication, but there’s no reason to rearrange your entire life for it. You certainly shouldn’t give up or ruin your vacation because of it. Instead, there are a few ways to adjust your training so that you can enjoy your vacation and your runs. In fact, running on vacation is exactly what Annmarie and I discuss in the latest episode of Runners Who Wine!
I, for one, LOVE running on vacation and have been fortunate enough to run in cities across the country and the globe (most recently in Ibiza while on my honeymoon!). In this episode, we share some of our favorite places around the world to run (in case you’re planning a vacation and want a run-friendly spot), how to find a running route when you’re in a new-to-you place, and how to adjust your training plan so that you can keep your fitness level up without sacrificing what you came to do: vacation!

I love running on vacation too. It always seems like such an adventure to check out new routes. The only time I do NOT enjoy running on vacation is when I visit my son and his family in Steamboat Springs, CO. The air there is so thin, that I am usually gasping for breath within a tenth of a mile! 🙂
