Candy bars are something I am usually not able to eat due to my dairy allergy. I don’t miss them too much, but every now and then a craving sets in for a Baby Ruth or (of course) Reeses. Another one of my favorite candy bars from back in the day were Snickers. Snickers are the perfect combination of chocolate, caramel, peanuts, and nougat (what a great word, nougat).
One day, I really felt like a Snickers and I got an idea to create a healthy, dairy-free version. Better yet, these faux candy bars take a grand total of 5 minutes to make. No melting chocolate or boiling caramel sauce is involved here.
I’m going to warn you, at first glance, this recipe may not excite you. It doesn’t even look that appealing to be honest. You’re going to think, “No way that tastes anywhere close to a Snickers bar.” You’ll just have to trust me on this one and try it.
Are you ready? These are the only three ingredients:
That’s it. Peanut butter, cocoa powder, and dates. The dates are key. They bring the sweetness and the chewy, candy bar consistency while the cocoa and peanut butter create the chocolate flavor, caramel softness, and crunchy peanutty goodness. The recipe is a snap.
I know it doesn’t look that appetizing, but they are AMAZING! It took a lot of will power to stop after 5 (one serving). You can eat them right after you make them, but I like them frozen just like my Snickers bars. They taste so indulgent, but they are so much healthier for you! And I always consider it a plus when you know all the ingredients.
What do you think of these sinless Snickers? Have you faked any desserts and made them healthy?
