Last weekend, I was able to attend a private class for the Da Vinci BodyBoard. Have you all seen this thing? It’s like an entire gym in a board – part yoga mat, part pilates machine, part every weight machine you’ve attempted to use only to be too confused by those little muscle group graphics to actually use it. This thing is awesome. Here’s what their website has to say:
The BodyBoard system combines strength training and cardio in one short, daily workout system. The system works for any fitness level and can be used as a rehab system for injuries. The system is designed to build long, lean, muscles and does not tear the muscle. As a result, it can be used daily. This facilitates a more habit-forming exercise regime. Because of the short time commitment, there are no excuses. The BodyBoard also reaches the smaller muscles that support your joints creating a body with a more complete and balanced muscle structure.
I met up with Floery, the creator of the Da Vinci Bodyboard for a quick chat before I got to join in on a certification class for personal trainers.
Floery is one kick-ass lady (she’s in the pic above) . She’s not afraid to share that she’s 48 years old. Can you believe that? On top of that, she makes chocolate for a living! If I made chocolate for a living, I’m 99.9% sure I would not look like that! Teach me your ways, oh wise chocolatier!
Floery belives in the minimalist workout. Basically, her workouts on the BodyBoard are only 25-30 minutes long (no more excuses, ya’ll!). The catch is that those 25-30 minutes are ridiculous intense. She believes that’s all you need. Part of the reason she believes these short, intense workouts are better than hour-long+ workouts are that when you are working out at a high intensity for a short period of time, your body doesn’t have time to release cortisol, a hormone that forces your body into stress mode (which wears you out and triggers cravings). It also helps you store energy for your next workout. Maybe I need to aim to finish my marathon in 30 minutes, so I don’t get stressed out. Thoughts? It’s only about a mile a minute. Totally do-able.
Anyway, Floery plans her BodyBoard workouts to have a lot of variety. One second you’re working legs, the next, shoulders. You can seriously do everything on this thing. You can target the upper body, lower body, and core. You can do strength training moves, you can do yoga moves, you can do dance moves – the list goes on and on. Here are just a few examples of how versatile this board is:
Yea – it’s as tough as it looks. I could feel every muscle in my body during every move. Crazy! Floery also showed me some great moves for runners – think things to strengthen your knees and hip flexors. Maybe if I use this board, I won’t feel like an old lady after my runs anymore!
The only down side is that these boards don’t come cheap. The good news, you can save 15% or more by switching your car insurance to Geico (and by car insurance, I mean gym membership, and by Geico, I mean Da Vinci BodyBoard) – that crazy gecko. But for real, you’ll never need a gym again if you have this thing. And to entice you even more, Da Vinci BodyBoard is offering Fitful Focus readers an exclusive discount! Just enter “fitup” at checkout for $50 off! Now it really is cheaper than a gym. And car insurance! Still can’t swing it, some awesome personal trainers are starting to get certified, so hopefully there will be BodyBoard classes at a gym near you soon! In the meantime, learn more about the Da Vinci BodyBoard here.
A huge thank you goes out to Floery and Da Vinci BodyBoard for allowing me to take part in and observe your certification class! Now it’s time for me to get to saving so I can buy one of these bad boys!
Have you ever done resistance band training? What do you think of the Da Vinci BodyBoard?
