Yesterday, things got real.
Because yesterday, I got this bad boy in the mail:
At first I was confused. You see, my boyfriend is a huge fan of The Incredibles. When I asked him what he wanted for the holidays this year, his one response was, “The Incredibles. On Blu Ray.” I can see how that would lead you to (A) judge either me for dating a little boy (which is gross – I should judge you for thinking that) or (B) judge my 26 year old boyfriend (I told you I’m not a cradle robber) for liking a movie meant for young children so much that it’s the only thing on his wish list. In reality, The Incredibles is really just a fun, and yes, incredible movie, and his asking for this simple gift for the holidays proves he is just young at heart and isn’t after my money (which is good, because I don’t have any).
Anyway, when this came in the mail I thought he had gone out and ordered himself some special Incredibles gift set. I was all, “What the heck?! You can’t tell people that this is the only thing you want for the holidays and then go buy it for yourself!” (I said this to the mailbox, by the way.) But then I took a closer look.
And that’s when I remembered, “Oh yea! I’m running a marathon in January. In Disney World. This must be about that trip!”
How I forgot about the marathon when training is pretty much all I’ve thought about for the past 10 weeks, I do not know. Then again, I suppose Disney could have picked a different movie to deliver this message. I mean, don’t they know every runner’s significant other is going to ask for a movie that was made in 2004 for Christmas? Come on, Walt!
Upon putting confusion aside and opening the box, turns out it was, in fact, about my upcoming trip to Disney World.
I have to say, It’s pretty sweet! The whole thing is personalized and they even sent this bad-ass flash drive with a “secret” message about my stay.
This whole long-winded story comes down to this: Getting this little package made me realize that I only have a month and a half until my first marathon! I can’t believe it! Despite all the early mornings, the 18 miles I ran in below freezing temps last Sunday, and the fact that I already have almost 300 miles on my “new” running shoes, this whole running my first marathon felt like a far away goal. Well, Mr. Incredible says it ain’t too far anymore! It’s happening, and I’m ready to make it one incredible race!
What is the first big race you ever ran? When did things start to “get real” for you?
P.S. The Incredibles should have won an Oscar.
P.P.S. Ok, so I just looked it up, and apparently The Incredibles DID win an Oscar! Two actually! See, my boyfriend enjoys Oscar winning films. He’s cultured like that.
