I honestly didn’t think the challenge would be so hard for me considering I tend to have a smoothie for breakfast and a salad for lunch, and there have been plenty of days where I had a 2nd smoothie as a mid-afternoon meal, so the only big difference would be soup everyday for dinner. Plus, I can have as many raw veggies and up to a cup of hummus (which is A LOT of hummus) if I get hungry. Peace of cake, right? Oh so wrong.
First of all, I don’t think I realized how much I rely on my morning cup of coffee. The first day, I was dog-tired all day long. On Wednesday, I was fine during the day, but I started falling asleep 2 hours before I usually tuck in. Yesterday, I was super sluggish in the morning. I was moving very slowly in my yoga class and was sloth-like through my morning routine. Needless to say, my body is definitely adjusting. I’m hoping I’ll get my energy back tomorrow.
BUT, my dear fit and focused friends, it’s not all bad, not in the least. Besides being a little tired, I’m feeling great! My stomach hasn’t been upset since I started the challenge. I have a sensitive tummy, so for me not to get bloated, nauseous, or just feel general discomfort for three days in a row is a miracle!
Plus, the smoothies taste amazing! I thought some of them would be too green-tasting for me, but not at all! The Green Julius tastes like frozen dessert and the Tropical Colada really does taste tropical. Even if you don’t partake in the challenge, you should try out these smoothies.
The salads are also nice and big and are pretty much exactly like the salads I usually make (though I do miss my avocado). It has green leaf lettuce, broccoli, beets, chickpeas, tomatoes, snow peas, and red bell pepper. I’ve been topping all that off with vegan ranch dressing from the Vedged Out recipe guide.
Everything tastes great, which is a definite plus, and the variety is so nice (a lot of cleanses you eat the same exact thing day in and day out). However, I’m definitely struggling mentally and it doesn’t help that I got this box of treats in the mail from winning the Blue Diamond Almond sponsored healthysELF challenge. How am I going to hold off testing out these goodies until Tuesday?!
By the end of today, I’ll be over half way done, but I’m worried I won’t be able to make it through the weekend. Have you ever done a detox like this? Any tips, tricks, or words of motivation on how to make it through to the end?
