I’ve fallen off the wagon lately. I haven’t been exercising as much as I’d like and certainly haven’t been eating as well as I’d like. This kind of thing happens every now and again. We’re all human and as such sometimes we just gotta eat (and sleep in). Rainy days when you just want to curl up in bed and watch movies, stressful days at work, or ya know, when that cookie (and 5 of its friends) is staring you down.
Anyway, I have a very sensitive stomach, and it’s been feeling the effects of said 5 cookies. Moral of the story is I’ve decided to do a little cleanse. Not one of those juice cleanses. No, I have to give my chewing muscles their daily workout. This is more of a healthy food reset-cleanse.
Cleanses (both juice and food) can get very pricey if you go through a company. A three-day cleanse can set you back at least $200, so instead, I’m doing a DIY challenge from Somer over at Vedged Out.
Somer posted this challenge quite a long time ago, and I stashed it away for a rainy day. Well, April showers are here, so I headed out to the grocery to stock up on veggies! Check out all the details from Somer here.
Basically, every day consists of four meals:
- 2 giant green smoothies (I’m talking 4 cups each!)
- 1 mega salad (1/2 – 1 whole head of lettuce per salad!)
- and a soup
You can also munch on as many raw veggies and homemade hummus as you like! I definitely can’t see myself going hungry! I think the hardest part for me is going to be no caffeine (I love my morning cup of joe), and I’ll miss avocado in my salads, but otherwise, if my sweet tooth kicks in I’ll just have one of the sweeter smoothies!
Somer provided a bunch of great recipes to get started. I’m going to give all the smoothies a go, I made a big batch of hummus for snacking, and I also prepared a bunch of salads for the week with green leaf lettuce, broccoli, tomatoes, beets, chickpeas, snow peas, and bell peppers + the vegan ranch dressing from her guide. For dinner, I whipped up the Cozy Roasted Butternut Soup, so I have that ready to go for the week. I’ll keep you all posted on my progress. Any of you care to join me? Or have any of you tried another type of cleanse? How did it go?
